Leadership Awards

Middle Tennessee State University presents its most prestigious awards at the appropriate college awards program. This university-wide awards program pays tribute to four undergraduate students honored for exemplary character and achievements in scholarship, leadership, and service. All members of the MTSU community are encouraged to nominate individuals who have demonstrated a commitment to excellence and meet the awards criteria. Nominations and applications are accepted each year in February.  Under each award you will find a “nominate student” button that you will select.  Use your MTSU Pipeline credentials to log into the system and complete the form.  Make sure you select submit to complete the process.  The Director of Student Organizations & Service will congratulate and inform the student of the nomination in order to begin the application process. Award recipients are selected by the University Awards Committee through an application and interview process.

We will accept nominations through February 15, 2024.  The deadline to submit all materials for the 2023-2024 awards is February 28, 2024 by 4:30 PM.  All completed applications, essays, and recommedation letters should be scanned into one document and emailed to involve@mtsu.edu

Description

The President’s Award is the most prestigious award given to a student of Middle Tennessee State University. The student who wins this award must exemplify superior character and honor and have made achievements that, ideally, all students should strive to meet. This undergraduate student will have completed at least 90 credit hours, have a minimum 3.0 GPA, be recognized as a campus leader, and have made significant contributions to the University community.

Application Process

Individuals may apply or be nominated by anyone in the university community. The Office of Student Organizations and Service will send out emails to all nominated individuals telling them they have been nominated (assuming the individual meets the minimum GPA requirement) and encouraging them to complete an application. The application process includes: a) a President’s Award application; b) an essay (not to exceed two typed, double-spaced pages) in which the student describes the qualities he/she and accomplishments which prove him/her to be a strong leader and representative of the university; and c) three letters of support from distinct areas of the campus (i.e. faculty, staff, peer, etc.). No resumes will be accepted with application.

Selection Process

Applications will be reviewed by the University Awards Committee and the top three finalists will be interviewed. The award recipient will be recognized at the appropriate college awards program.

Description

The Provost’s Award is given to a student of Middle Tennessee State University who best demonstrates outstanding academic achievement. This undergraduate student will have completed at least 90 credit hours, have a minimum 3.5 GPA, and have provided evidence of involvement in scholarly activities (i.e. department organizations, debate team, presentation of papers, etc.).

Application Process

Individuals may apply for this award or be nominated by anyone in the University community. Deans are encouraged to nominate qualified students. The application process includes:

  1. a Provost’s Award application;
  2. an essay (not to exceed two typed, double-spaced pages) and verified evidence of scholarly activity; and
  3. three letters of support from teaching faculty. No resumes will be accepted with application.

Selection Process

Applications will be reviewed by the University Awards Committee and the top candidate will be selected. The committee may interview the top finalist(s). The award recipient will be recognized at the appropriate college awards program.

Description

The recipient of this award will be a student who exemplifies servant leadership through his or her community service. Community service may include volunteerism, public service, charitable, service, and leadership roles in student organizations. The recipient of the award must be in good standing with the university and have earned a minimum of 60 hours.

Application Process

The application process includes the Community Service application, an essay (not to exceed two typed, double spaced pages) that describes the circumstances that makes the person a strong candidate for the award, and two letters of support from MTSU or outside community.

Selection Process

Applications will be reviewed by the University Awards Committee and the top candidate will be selected. The award recipient will be recognized at the Student Government Association Banquet.

Description

The recipient of this award will be a student who has shown remarkable determination, has had to make sacrifices, and is contributing to the community during work toward a degree. This undergraduate student must be in good standing with the university and have completed a minimum of 90 credit hours.

Application Process

Individuals may apply for this recognition or be nominated by anyone in the University community. The application process includes:

  1. an Achievement Award application;
  2. an essay (not to exceed two typed, double-spaced pages) related to the emphasis of this award; and
  3. three or more letters of support, written either by MTSU personnel or external community members. No resumes will be accepted with application.

Selection Process

Applications will be reviewed by the University Awards Committee and the top three finalists will be interviewed. The award recipient will be recognized at the Student Government Association Banquet.

Nominations and applications are accepted each year in January and February by completing the nominate student form below each award description.  The Director will congratulate and inform the student of the nomination in order to begin the application process.
